International Outreach
Each year our club donates to an international organization that works to improve the lives of women and girls. In 2025, the Issues and Advocacy Committee recommended that our club make a two-year commitment to support the Stephen Lewis Foundation for its partnership with the Young Happy Healthy Safe project in Zambia. YHHS works to create lasting change by empowering girls to access education and build brighter, healthier futures for themselves and their communities YHHS is also the program selected by National for its International Service Project.
Participating in Local Issues
Our Issues & Advocacy Committee takes an interest in our local community. We study and assess emerging local issues to determine if we need to advocate. In the past we have written letters to elected officials, made submission on local government initiatives, and asked questions at candidate meetings on issues that reflect CFUW policy. On November 25, 2024 we initiated a flag raising to raise awareness for the issue of Violence Against Women. Coverage and background on this event by Stouffville Bullet Point Press can be found here. This flag raising was repeated in November 2025. For details see here.
CFUW National Campaigns
We encourage our members to be involved in CFUW National Campaigns such as the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. Other National priorities include Indigenous Peoples, Long-Term Care, Early Learning and Child Care, Environment and Climate Change. Click to visit Advocacy – Canadian Federation of University Women.
CFUW Policy Development
Each year our Issues and Advocacy Committee helps to shape CFUW policy by reviewing and making recommendations about resolutions put forward by CFUW clubs from across the country. View current resolutions here.
